01/04/2022 Important Message from District 89

Dear D89 Parents,

In recent days the rapid spread of COVID-19, due in part to the Omicron variant, has increased the number of positive cases of COVID in our communities. We have decided to implement 2-days of eLearning for this Thursday, January 6th and Friday, January 7th. We will return to in-person instruction on Monday, January 10th. This additional time will allow the district to implement additional mitigation strategies to prepare for our in-person instruction. Additional information regarding the school day for this Thursday and Friday will be shared by your child’s classroom teacher tomorrow, Wednesday. We know the latest headlines of positive cases reported around the nation, in our communities and in our state can be concerning but we feel confident that we can continue to safely provide in-person learning for our students.

Grab & Go Breakfast and Lunch will be available for pickup on Thursday and Friday from 10:00am – 1:00pm at all D89 schools.

As we prepare for our first day back to in-person instruction on Monday, January 10th we need your assistance. If your child is showing any signs of illness (fever, chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea), please keep them home from school. If they are experiencing any of these symptoms you may want to consult a doctor or schedule a COVID test. If one of your children tests positive, please keep your other children home until you have consulted your doctor or spoken to another health care professional. Likewise, if your child has tested positive for COVID, keep them home from school. Finally, if your child has been exposed to a COVID positive individual, please call the school to notify them and determine the next appropriate steps.

Please know that we will continue to monitor our local health conditions in our communities and will respond accordingly. We remain committed to our layered mitigation strategies that have proven effective in reducing the transmission of COVID at our schools and that have allowed us to keep in-person learning available for all of our students. We appreciate your continued partnership, support and flexibility as we continue to navigate the challenges posed by COVID.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Negron
Superintendent
