SD89 Education Foundation holds Inaugural Banquet

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, supporters of the SD89 Education Foundation gathered at Stevenson Middle School for the “Tomorrow Needs Today” Scholarship Banquet. The evening was a celebration of students and teachers of District 89. The evening began with a performance by Stevenson and Garfield choirs led by Beth and Jeff Hedberg. The centerpieces on the tables were aboriginal sculptures created by students in the Encore art classes. Two of last year’s graduates from D89 performed spoken word. The keynote speaker for the event was Steven Hunter, Community Ambassador for the Phoenix Suns and WozU Education and District 89 Alum. Thanks to Steven Hunter, District 89 will be able to provide an afterschool WozU coding club for students Kindergarten through 8th grade this year! Near the end of the event, the SD89 Education Foundation awarded every school in District 89 a grant in the amount of $500 to be used towards classroom projects of innovation in Science, Math, or Language Arts.
