Destination Imagination 2018

Destination Imagination TeamsDistrict 89 students, led by Ms. Pieranunzi-Baluan and Ms. Floretta-Schiller, competed in the Destination Imagination regional tournament on March 3rd at Hadley Jr. High in Glen Ellyn. Congratulations to both teams for demonstrating problem solving skills, quick thinking, and teamwork while presenting their team challenge solutions and working on instant challenges. Teams competed in a scientific challenge where they had to create a working amusement park attraction using scientific methods such as magnetism, electricity, levers, and hydraulics or an engineering challenge where they had to build a device that weighed under 175 grams but could withstand hundreds of pounds dropped on it. The team, JITAMI, which includes Maria (Stevenson), Jose (Stevenson), Isain (Stevenson), Isaac (Stevenson), and Thania (Stevenson), came in 4th place in the scientific challenge. The team, 6 Skittles, which includes Erik (Stevenson), Juan (Stevenson), Stanley (Stevenson), Annamaria (Jane Addams), and Anthony (Dwight D. Eisenhower Jr. High), placed 3rd in the competition earning them a spot in the Affiliate Finals. Destination Imagination CompetitionThey also won the Spirit of DI award for going out of their way to help another team in need. The 6 Skittles are headed to the Affiliate tournament on March 24th in DeKalb to compete against teams from other regions in Illinois for a chance to participate in the Global Finals in May.
