Garfield Hosts Literacy Night!
On Monday, October 30th, Garfield Elementary hosted its annual Literacy Night. The theme was “Reading Under the Stars”, and the decorations did not disappoint. The stage, hallways, and walls were filled with camping gear, tents, s’mores, and stars. It truly felt like a night out camping.
Guests were told to dress as their favorite book character. There was plenty to do throughout the entire event. Guests were able to go to each school’s table and vote for the best decorated pumpkin. Volunteers went to the front of the stage and sang classic campfire songs. There was even a balloon artist! When guests got hungry, they headed to the cafeteria for some camping themed treats – hotdogs, popcorn, and s’mores!
Garfield was fortunate to have many vendors at the event, including Boy Scouts of America and Grand Canyon University. At the end of the evening, Ms. Alexander and Ms. Sherrod announced the winner of the pumpkin decorating contest, and once again Garfield came out the champion!
It was a magical night celebrating the love of reading.
